20 July 2009: Marysville, Victoria
On the 7th of February this year bushfires swept through Victoria destroying over 2000 homes, burning 400,000 hectares of land. 173 people died. Marysville is just one of the 78 communities devastated. I went there to see if it would be appropriate and useful to initiate a long-term project documenting the reconstruction of the town and lives within it. I felt deeply moved by both the charred landscape and the resilient attitude of the locals I met. I hope to be of use during the rebuilding period.

Brisbane Institute of Modern Art's annual showcase of emerging artists is on from 4 July - 22 August. This year I have been lucky enough to be selected as one of four artists. A selection of images from 'On the Mary River' are now on display at Consitution Square in Málaga, Spain, as part of an exhibition titled “Water, rivers and people: a tribute to those who are fighting for better water management and a life in dignity, in a just and sustainable world".
